Lamayuru-Padum Trek
Duration: 14 Nights & 15 days
Day 01: Delhi-Leh Fly Delhi to Leh and be transferred to the hotel. Day 02: Sight Seeing: Today we visit The Shey Castle, Thiksay Monastery and Hemis. The Shey Castle is well-known in this ancient town of the same name in Leh. The Shey Castle was built around the 13th Century by the great Dharma Raja (King) Of Jamyang Namgyal. The Thiksay Monastery is one of the most popular monasteries in Leh and sports a structure-similarity to the Potala in Tibet. Hemis is the biggest monastery in Ladakh and a popular place to visit. After seeing these interesting spots we return the hotel for an over-night stay. Day 03 Sight Seeing We visit the Spituk and Phang Monastery. The Spituk Monastery is a very big monastery situated in the South West of Leh at about 6km. It lies near the River Indus. The Phang Monastery is a nice and big monastery situated 26 km from Leh in the village of Phang. We have our lunch in the hotel and after that we take a walk in Leh Market. . Day 04 Drive to Fanjila: We take a 4-hour drive along the Indus River and get to see a river meeting point that is known as a “Sangam”. We also see the Villages of Nimoo, Basgo, Liker, Saspol and Khalsi. After crossing the Khalsi Bridge we enter a narrow valley. We come to Lamayuru which means “The Moon Land”. On the way we see the Village Wanla-one of the notable architect villages here. Our last car drops us at Fanjila where we stay overnight in the tents.
Day 05: Fanji La - Hanupatta (05 hrs).
Today our hike begins on a flat section where we cross to the right bank before Phenjilla to reach the junction of the river. We continue to go across the slope to reach Hanupatta- a gorgeous natural terrain of Ladakh. We stay overnight in the tents.
Day 06 Hanupatta - Photoksar (07 hrs)
The day is a long ascent into the rocky trail. We cross the river and walk up to Sisir La (4800mts) after which we proceed into a long descent to Photoskar (3750mts). We stay overnight in the tents. Day 07: Photoksar - Foot of Sengge La (07 hrs) We start with a morning trek to the foot of the Sengge La with packed lunch. We ascend to the Bumiktse La (4200mts) after which we face a gentle slope into the broad valley. We take a short climb to the Sengge La (5000mts) and then descent till its foot. We camp here for the night and stay in the tents.
Day 08: Foot of Sengge La - Lingshet (06 hrs)
After Kiupa La (3850mts) we descend and reach the villages of Gongma and Skiumpata (3840mts). We reach Lingshed after crossing the Murgum La (4100mts) and stay overnight in the tents.
Day 09: Lingshet - Snertse (06 hrs).
After breakfast we trek to Snertse to reach Lingshed. From here it is an easy ascent to the Hanuma La Pass (4700mts). We then take a long gradual descent to Snertse and stay overnight in the tents.
Day 10: Snertse - Hanumil (06 hrs).
Today from the Oma Chu River, we ascend to the Parfi La (3900mts) and take a sharp descent to the foot of the Pass. We walk up to the plateau taking the path that leads towards the edge of the Zanskar to Hanumil. We stay overnight in the tents.
Day 11: Hanumil - Pishu (5hrs).
Today we take an easy walk to Pishu for 5 hours sometimes along the river and plateau. We stay overnight in the tents.
Day 12: Pishu - Karsha (05 hrs)
Today we cross Rinam which is a small stream and shelter formed by the rocks. The trail is an easy stretch along the banks of the Zanskar River to Karsha that is a beautiful Gelukpa Monastery dating back to the 15th century. We stay overnight in tents.
Day 13: Karsha - Rangdum (3-4 hrs)
Today we trek to Padum with packed lunch. We cross the Doda river and walk through a dusty plain to Pipiting and then to Padum. We visit the local monasteries / Gompas in the evening. We stay overnight in the tents.
Day 14: Rangdum – Leh
Day 15: Extra Day in Leh (Optional) |
