Original motive for the establishment of this area was to give better shelter to Tibetan refugees arriving Delhi but its growth was faster than expected. It took least time for the area to convert into prominent Tibetan market in Delhi.
This market is famous as Monastery Market nowadays. Main purpose of tourists or shoppers arriving here is to explore quality antiques especially typically designed wooden lamps, statues or various types of miniatures; most importantly shawls, paintings and multiple artifacts from Tibet besides jewelries and rest variegated accessories one wants to buy.
It had grown fast today as complete market where variety of woolen and normal clothes are available like variety of accessories attracting potential buyers.
