An earthquake of 6 magnitude on the Richter Scale in Afghanistan sent tremors across North India on Monday. Tremors were felt in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. According to initial reports, the quake, centered in the Hindukush range, was also felt in Pakistan.
The epicenter of the magnitude 6 quake was 88 kilometers (54.68 miles) from Feyzabad in Afghanistan at a depth of 209 kilometers (129.87 miles) the US Geological Survey said. The Hindukush mountain ranges are known to be prone to earthquakes.
Tremors were also felt in Islamabad, Peshawar and Abbottabad in Pakistan and in areas of Pakistan occupied Kashmir. No damage to property or death has been reported so far.
In Srinagar, people fled their homes and offices in panic. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to Twitter to describe his experience. "That was a hell of a tremor. Hope everyone is safe and well," Abdullah tweeted.

Incidentally, another high intensity earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 on Richter Scale hit the Solomon Islands at around 9.42 am on Monday.
