Russian tourists in India

Why do so many Russians visit Goa?

Cheap holiday destination, great food, booze, warm climate, beaches...drugs and psychedelic. There is a place off vagator beach which has been swamped by Russians and they don't allow any localites or tourist to even enter their territory. I was asked to leave that place as our group accidently came to that place. Pretty much of a drug cartel, troubling everyone. That's the sad part of it. Its not that I am against Russians visiting goa but they should not indulge in such activities which gives the place a bad name. I love goa so much that I have been going annually since last 7 years and every time I end up learning and discovering so many new things. I love the people there, the pace and quality of life they live. Its all so serene and blissful.

What Raghav has mentioned above. Most of the Russians and Israelis who end up in Goa are the downmarket types - not the Ruskies of class and sophistication that you'd encounter at the more upmarket beach destinations.

Thanks to the utter fascination Indians have with the white skin, which goes beyond reason and on complete disregard for the actual individual worth of a light skinned Caucasian person - a Russian minger or vegetable vendor would be treated like royalty in Goa. You could be rejected by the 'face kontrol' at a beach party in Ibiza or even Kolobrzeg/Odessa and yet, you could simply fly to Goa and have a native willing to be punched around for less than $20 a day.

I see that there is a lot of bad mouth about Russians here but that may not be the case with them. First its true that Russians settle in Goa and many stay here for a considerable portion of a year but if they are allowed to purchase land, own shops, drive taxis and be travel agents here in Goa then why wouldn't they live like that. If its so bad then the authorities shouldn't be allowing their activities.
I had also worked with a couple of Russians in my company and they were the nicest of people to work with irrespective of what they knew about the job.
Secondly they have their own habits, culture and food and they love to indulge in it.
You will be welcomed if you are friends with them but if you are a tourist on a few hours visit to the Arambol beach then you will definitely not get a very rosy picture. More so when the Indian tourists just stare at the russian girls in bikinis doing hula-hoop or smoking pot. They just can't take in their culture and this creates a clash probably.
I may be wrong in judgement but would definitely like to see answers from first-hand experienced people. And the drug cartel here is allegedly controlled by the combination of locals, Nigerians, police and the politicians before any Russians.
