Some mind blowing facts about Pakistan

Some mind blowing facts about Pakistan:

If anyone google Pakistan , the images seen will be mostly of a society that is heavily Islamicized and intolerant.

But in the great ocean of the images , one will be surprised to find few solitary islands - those few images  from the past that shows an image of Pakistan that we Indians, her neighbors from across the border , never knew about her.

This is a blast into the past of Pakistan. A nation that was trying to be liberal and intellectual midst the din of coups and wars.

The only bearded men here are the leftist Commies- Oh and that bearded guy on left is Che Guevara.

Another  beardless gathering- Snapped from a meeting  of PPP , which is the first progressive  party in Pakistan that allowed for the presence of Marxists, Maoists,  liberals, intellectuals, students and religious right wingers .

From a time when Lollywood wasn't overshadowed by the big brother Bollywood.

Finally some bearded zealots!! ..Wait ,they don't look like the usual bearded guys seen on TV?

That is because they are hippies, who are  rolling a stiff joint filled with hashish sourced from with Pakistan. This pic of them chilling was snapped at  Peshawar .

What?? you mean Peshawar,  the very place where Taliban attacked the army school ??

Yes . Peshawar was a famous stopover on a famous Hippie trail than went all the way from Iran till the Karakoram range. So seeing  hippie was a normal sight.

A snap from a nightclub in Karachi. Nightclubs were banned in 1977 and this vibrant liberal attitude died out soon after.

VATTTT??
An ad for Vat 69 , signifying the times in the old Pakistan when alcohol wasn't strictly controlled.

Poster of the movie Miss Hippie - This movie that rode on the Hippie trend that was prevalent in the 70s of Pakistan.  Liberal ideas and attitudes were seen in the industry and society .

A Jazz band  before their performance at a Jazz bar in Karachi. Many Goan Jazz bands used to travel to Karachi as the Jazz scene was very strong in Pakistan during the 70s.

Though in this age Obama wouldn't be caught dead in Pakistan, in 1981 he stayed as an exchange student at Karachi University when times were much better in Pakistan.

After seeing these images, we should all acknowledge that however progressive and liberal a society maybe, if the political dispensation and rule of law goes down the drain the mindset of the people would also change.
