Christmas season will unofficially kick off in town this weekend.
Saturday marks 'Christmas in Delhi', where a host of activities will take place, including the popular Christmas parade.
Resurrected in recent years, the gathering has brought together businesses, service groups and local residents for an evening of fun. Judging for floats begins at Delhi District Secondary School at 4:30 p.m., with the parade itself kicking off at 5:30 p.m. The route begins down James St. turns left at King and another left on William St. before finishing back at DDSS.
The parade won't be the only chance to see Santa, however. Breakfast with Santa will be held at the Delhi Royal Canadian Legion. Pictures with Santa, Mrs. Claus and one of the elves will be available – as will a hearty breakfast – from 9-11:30 a.m.
Free sleigh rides around town are being offered, as is face painting and carol signing. From 12:30-2 p.m. the Legion offers Christmas crafts.
Participants are invited to give back Saturday at the Delhi Community Arena during a food and toy drive from 8 a.m.-noon. Donations of either non-perishable food items or new toys will go to help the Delhi Sharing Pantry and the Delhi Toy and Food Drive. Every person who makes a donation will have a chance to win one of several door prices.
That's not all. On Dec. 19, Santa's elf will visit downtown Delhi. To help everyone stay warm and full, hot chocolate and cookies are being offered at Delhi Flower & Gifts from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Visit participating retailers downtown and enter the draws for $50 worth of Delhi BIA Bucks. Draws will be held December 5, 12 and 19.
A full list of activities, schedules and the parade route is posted at delhiontario.info.
