October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month!

Down Syndrome Awareness Month is chance to spread awareness, advocacy and inclusion throughout the community.  During the month of October, we celebrate  individuals with Down syndrome and make people aware of their abilities and accomplishments. And we have friends everywhere helping spread the word -thanks to St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and Missouri Governor Jay Nixon officially proclaiming October as Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

So, you’re excited about all of the possibilities for October, but now the question is“What can I do to spread awareness for the many amazing people with Down syndrome?” 

Lucky for you, we have some ideas!

Scavenger Hunt 

The DSAGSL will be celebrating DSAM by hosting a Scavenger Hunt in the City of St. Louis. We have “hidden” 21 signs around the St. Louis area. Take your team and find all 21 signs, take your picture with the sign and post it on social media using the hashtag #discoverdsagsl. The first team to find all the signs and post their pictures gets a tile on our Legacy Wall! The first sign is at the DSAGSL office, come by and get a map and a goodie bag!

Come join us for our 4th Annual Talent Show!

Over 60 artists and performers were featured at our talent show last year, and we are determined to make this year even bigger and better! We welcome individuals of all ages as well as groups. We’ve seen amazing performances of music, theater, comedy, poetry, visual arts, dance, martial arts and more! We welcome everyone to come celebrate the many talents that people with Down syndrome have.

Pizza with a Purpose

 Pizza and Down syndrome awareness…is there a better combination?! We don’t think so! Visit one of the four California Pizza Kitchen locations in St. Louis, bring in this flyer and 20% of your purchase will go to the DSAGSL! Valid on October 15th, 22nd, and 29th all day at the four listed California Pizza Kitchen locations.

Down Syndrome Super Star

Do  you know someone who has gone above and
beyond for an individual with Down syndrome and /
or the Down syndrome community? We want to
know about your Down Syndrome Super Star! Send their
name and contact information as well as a brief
description of why this person shines to
abby@dsagsl.org by October 31. We want to celebrate
them during Down Syndrome Awareness Month!
