Cleanest air you will find only in Himachal Pradesh:
We often act like all we need to survive is food, some good beer and maybe a few desserts, but do you know what we really need? Air.
More than 80 percent of the Earth's urban residents are breathing unhealthy air. They're living in cities with lots of cars, trucks and fossil fuel-burning power plants. Be it Peshawar in Pakistan, Beijing in China, or Delhi in India.
However, a recent study by the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-D) revealed that the Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh has the cleanest air in the country, whereas Delhi is the most polluted.
The study took into account the levels of PM 2.5 (particulate matter, which is an air pollutant and measures less than 2.5 microns in size) in air and the resultant deaths caused by particulate matter pollution.
In the report, the PM 2.5 level in Delhi stood at 148 - 51 µg/m³ (microgram per cubic meter) annually, several times higher than the safe limit of 40µ g/m³.
But the level recorded in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district was 3.7 -1 µg/m³ annually, which means that the air in Kinnaur is so clean that the particulate matter levels are less than 10% of the air quality target!
Have a look at this paradise:
Ah! Fresh air
Just to put things in perspective, these small-sized air pollutants are not consumed by the human body well and can lead to some serious diseases such as bronchitis, allergies, persistent coughs and other breathing problems.
About 2.79 lakh Indians die too early due to COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), 1.1 lakh die of IHD (Ischemic Heart Disease), whereas 88,700 and 14,800 die due to stroke and lung cancer, respectively, as suggested by a study conducted by IIT.
So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and move to Kinnaur. NOW!
