HYDERABAD: Balala Hakkula Sangham on Thursday said that they have found samples of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) tainted with E.Coli, and Salmonella when tested by the Telangana's State Food Laboratory.
However, KFC's spokesperson termed it a false alarm, and said they will seek a clarification from concerned authorities.
"We collected samples of fried chicken from KFC's outlets at five places in the city, and sent them for tests to the laboratory within an hour," said Anuradha Rao, president of the Balala Hakkula Sangham.
A report of SFL, signed by A V Krishna Kumari, food analyst, dated June 24, which the Sangham produced, stated that sample of KFC chicken product contained E.Coli, and Salmonella.
"I am of the opinion that the sample contains E.Coli & Salmonella which are pathogens and injurious to health. It is therefore unsafe," stated the report.
"We collected Kentucky Fried Chicken samples on June 18, and sent them for tests. We demand that the government stop the sale of such products which are detrimental to children's health," Rao said.
KFC's spokesperson said, "This report is an allegation. We have no knowledge of the sample being collected from any of our outlets and in what condition it has been transported for this alleged test. This is a perishable food item meant for immediate consumption.
We have not received any intimation from any authority in this regard. In any case, there is no possibility of any microbial development in our food which is cooked at 170 degrees celsius. This is an attempt to wrongly malign our brand reputation, we would strongly pursue this case and seek a clarification from the concerned authorities."
