National Association of Street Vendors of India to host 6th National Street Food Festival from December 25-28 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium
It’s that time of the year again when street food from all over India comes to the national capital to tease the tastebuds of foodies. Street food lovers in Delhi can dig into their favourite grub at the 6th National Street Food Festival to be hosted by the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from December 25-28.

To be inaugurated by celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor, the festival will have nearly 1,000 “roadside chefs” presenting street cuisines from 20 states. While Pochamma and team from Andhra Pradesh will have Keema Mutton for you, Assam’s Simantha and team will bring Tangy Fish Curry, Chicken with Curry Leaves, rice cake, different types of tea and many local dishes of the state. The stall put up by Bihar’s Rakesh Tripathi and team will be serving Litti Chokha, Chhene Jalebi Bajaka-pakauri and Chaat Belgarami and many other delicacies.
On all days of the festival, chefs from different states, including Sanjeev Kapoor, will hold food demonstration sessions where they will cook different dishes and share their recipes.
The festival will also feature a Street Food Dialogue on all four days. Chefs Sanjeev Kapoor and Kunal Kapoor will be among the speakers.
Entry to the venue is by tickets only, which can be bought online from the NASVI website http://www.nasvinet.org. Tickets will also be available at a booth near the festival entry gate (No. 14) of the stadium.
NASVI is a federation of 888 street vendor organisations from 23 states of India. It has been advocating the ‘right to livelihood’ of street vendors and sees passing of the Central Act for Street Vendors in 2014 as a big success. NASVI is currently engaged with various governments to ensure implementation of the Act.
Besides Delhi, NASVI has organised street food festivals in Patna and Singapore too.
Street Saathi, your app for street food
The inaugural day of the festival will see the launch of an Android app, Street Saathi. The app promises to help people find street vendors who sell different food items such as fruits, vegetables, snacks, meals, beverages and sweets in a particular area. Street Saathi claims to be the first application of this kind in India that will bring all these unorganised street food vendors at one common platform. Using this app, people can find these vendors by selecting the market of their choice and the type of food item they are looking for.
