Mysore Palace
The palace of Mysore, also known as Amba vilas is the most important, both historically and architecturally, palace in the city of Mysore, which is known as the city of palaces. It is located in Karnataka, South India.

It is the official residence of the maharaja of Mysore from 1399 to recent days. The beauty and majestic look of the palace is a feast to the eyes and millions comes to this palace and go with a filled heart and amazed look with wonder.
Though the palace has a history of more than 6 centuries the present palace is built by Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV during the beginning of last century. Henry Irwin assisted in its designs and architecture. The Royal palace is an excellent combination of Dravidian, Indo-saracenic, Oriental and Roman styles of architecture.
The palace is a three storied stone building of fine grey granite with 145 ft high towers with golden gilded domes. The palace is surrounded by a large garden with beautiful colorful flowers all over.

The Palace Itself with the image of the illuminated lights standing against the dark black sky is one of the unforgettable metaphors in one’s life. More than 97,000 bulbs are used to produce this enchanting image of the palace.
The palace is illuminated on all Sundays and holidays between 7.00 pm and 8 pm. The most important festival celebrated in Mysore palace is Dasara and during Dasara the illumination show is extended to one more hour.
Mysore palace is one of the most magnificent buildings. The interior of the palace is more fabulous than any palaces in India. The spacious halls, paintings and architectural beauty covet any tourist and the richly curved, intricate, colorful inside make a feel that you are in a different world.
The first attraction is the doll palace, where you can see a pavilion of traditional dolls from 19th and 20th centuries of different countries. Some collections are very old and fabulous.
The collection include a formation of an wooden elephant decorated with 84 Kg of gold. Then you enter into the Kalyana Mantapa hall which is covered with stained glass and floored beautifully with imported glazed tiles.
Ambavilasa is the hall used by the maharajas for meeting the private audience. This is one of the most decorated part in the palace. The walls along with the corridors are beautified with oil paintings.
The Palace has many visually delightful rooms that displays many antique of the kings like ornaments, crowns, armory, a large collection of costumes, Graceful chandeliers, ornamental frescoes, thrones etc..During Dasara the royal throne used by the maharajas is displayed.
It is stated that 200 Kg of gold is used to construct it !. There are Seven Canons in front of the main entrance, which are used till date to mark the beginning and end of Dasara festivals every year.
Another attraction is the presence of 12 temples inside the palace of which some are bearing history from early 4th century onwards. They all vary in their architectural styles and some are built, challenging the modern technology. How to reach :
Mysore palace is located right in the heart of the city and access to the palace is very simple. Bus terminal is very near to it and have only a walk-able distance from here. Mysore railway station is also in a reachable distance of 2.5 km and can hire a taxi to reach the destination. If you are by air Bangalore is the nearest airport (140 km).
Mysore is the second largest city in the state of Karnataka. Mysore was the erstwhile capital of the state when the Wodeyars ruled it. Since time immemorial Mysore has played an important part in the history of South India and especially of Karnataka. By Road
Mysore is 139kms to the south west of Bangalore. The state highway that connects these two cities is very well maintained. Travelling from Bangalore to Mysore by road is a pleasant experience and will take about 3hrs. The Karnataka Road Transport Corporation has excellent bus service to Mysore. There are ordinary buses, semi-luxury buses and luxury buses operated by the Government of Karnataka. Every half an hour there is a non-stop bus to Mysore from Bangalore Bus Station. Corporations of other states and private tour operators have buses plying to Mysore as well. All these facilities have made Mysore extremely accessible by road.
By Train
Mysore is connected with a number of trains to Bangalore. The super fast luxury train the Shatabdi Express connects Mysore to Madras. The quickest and most comfortable way to reach Mysore is via Bangalore.
By Air
The nearest airport to Mysore is Bangalore (139 km). All the domestic airlines in the country operate their flights to Bangalore from all the major cities in the country. Some international airlines too have flights to Bangalore. Bangalore is to have an international airport shortly.
