Indian universities interested in creating centers for Russian Studies

More centers that are engaged in the study of Russia should soon appear in Russia, said George Mathew, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Social Sciences (India), during a panel session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) at the Global Business Summit in New Delhi.

“There is a need for opening centers of Russian studies at Indian universities,” George Mathew was quoted as saying by The Agency for Strategic Iniatives. “We should establish relations between Russian and Indian centers of expertise, which could then lead this process.”

According to George Mathew, cooperation between Russia and India in the field of education, health care, and in the pharmaceutical industry has significantly advanced in recent years. Increased interest in the Asia-Pacific Region and the successful experience of the implementation of joint projects within the BRICS allow for the creation of plans to expand cooperation.

“A good example is the project by the Cadila Company involving the production of pharmaceutical products in the Yaroslavl Region starting in 2016. On the Russian side – the Sibur Company is building the largest plant in South Asia for the production of butyl rubber, in the city of Jamnagar,” said Rustem Davletov, head of regional development and international relations at ASI.

“We are studying the possibility of implementing joint projects with our Indian partners to export the obtained products outside the BRICS countries as well”, he said.
