Qutub Shahi Tombs
Qutub Shahi Tombs complex contains the tombs of the royals of the Shahi Dynasty.
The tombs of the Emperors are marked with golden spires and are of two stories when compared to tombs of other royals in the complex.
Qutub Shahi tombs are set in a large landscaped garden.
The tombs in this complex are built using a combination of Indian, Persian and Pashtun architecture.

Golconda Fort
Golconda Fort was the seat of power of the Golconda Kingdom from 1518 to 1687 – a rein of 171 years. Golconda Fort has four distinct forts inside built in different eras and occupies a span of over 11 kilometers.
The Fateh Darwaza or the victory gate through which Aurangzeb’s troops entered the fort has an amazing acoustic effect – if you clap here – it can be heard clearly at Bala Hisar pavilion (highest point of the fort) which is about a kilometer away. The Golconda Fort was a mud fortress and its origins can be traced to earlier reigns of Kakatiyas and Yadavas.
The world famous diamond “Koh-i-noor” was taken by Aurangzeb from Golconda Fort after his victory to Delhi (now part of the English Crown Jewels in London). The Golconda Fort’s vaults once held other large diamonds like, Hope Diamond (now at Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington, D.C., USA), Regent Diamond (Louvre, Paris, France), Wittelsbach-Graff Diamond (once part of Austrian and Bavarian Crown Jewels) Princie Diamond, Noor-ol-Aim and the largest of them all Dariya-ye-Noor (Treasury of National Jewels, Tehran, Iran ).

Charminar
Charminar was built by Qutub Shah in 1591 in commemoration of the second Islamic Millennium Year. It is also said that a plague came to an end during the same time and Qutub Shah had prayed for the end of the plague at this very place where the Charminar was built. Charminar was built as the center of the city of Hyderabad in Indo-Islamic architecture, the city was split into four quadrants with Char Kaman or the 4 gateways.
Hyderabad was built on the ancient trade route which connected Golconda to the port city of Machilipatnam. Charminar is constructed with granite, limestone, powdered marble and mortar. A mosque occupies the top floor of the structure – which was also used a court during the Qutub Shah time.

Chowmahalla Palace
Chowmahalla Palace was completed in 1869 (construction was started in 1750) and was the seat of power of the Asaf Jahi Dynasty – the Nizam Rulers of the state of Hyderabad.
Since the Chowmahalla Palace was built over a long period of time by different kings – there are many structures and many styles of architecture used as well.
Khilwat Mubarak – a main structure in the palace complex was used as the Durbar Hall. Khilwat Mubarak is decorated with intricate work on the pillars, walls and ceiling, and decorated with exquisite Belgian glass chandeliers. Khilwat Mubarak is where the Nizam’s entertained the British Governor Generals.
On exhibition is a Rolls Royce which was used as a dustbin by the Nizams along with other antique cars, royal palanquins, royal elephant seats and a clock with a miniature military band going-by every hour.

Salarjung Museum
Salarjung Museum is the 3rd largest museum in India and is a private collection of Nawab Mir Yusuf Ali Khan Salar Jung III, Prime Minister of the Nizam of Hyderabad.
More than 35,000 artifacts on display here were collected over a period of time from all over the world dating back to the 1st century.
Some of key exhibits are: Dagger belonging to Emperor Jehangir, Emperor Aurangzeb’s sword, Maharaja Tipu Sultan’s wardrobe, and many more from the bygone era.

Lumbini Park, at Hussain Sagar Lake
Hussain Sagar Lake was built as a dam in 1562 by Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali during the rule of Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah. The dam was built for supplying water to the city of Hyderabad and also irrigating the surrounding area. The Hussain Sagar lake unites Hyderabad and Secunderabad – the twin cities.
As part of the Buddha Purnima Project, a giant monolithic statue of Buddha was installed on Gibraltar – a rock in the middle of the lake and Lumbini Park was opened with gardens and watersports activities including boat rides to visit the Buddha Statue. Lumbini Park is a pleasant place to enjoy the sunsets with beautiful view of the promenade and the Buddha Statue.

Lumbini Park Entry Fee: Rs.10 per person.
