Why Kerala is called God's own country?

Kerala, God's own country:

Kerala is the place where the busy fast moving India slows down. A narrow strip of land with Arabian sea on one side and western ghats on the other side. Thanks to this geography, much of the monsoon winds shower their blessings to this small piece of land, making it lush green and everything glows. A hidden hand of God, dont you think?

And this has gifted us a land of fertile soil which makes the ideal place for spices to be grown beyond comparison. It was this difference that caught the Arabic and Dutch traders to take such huge risks and reach this beautiful land in search of spices (especially black pepper).

Thiruvananthapuram is the capital and gateway of Kerala. As the name implies, it is the land of great god Padmanabha swamy(Vishnu), who reclines in the yogic sleep posture on the serpent Anantha and is seen through 3 seperate doors. It is the richest temple in the world 320 billion (US$5.4 billion) in gold, coins and other assets.

And then there are perfect sandy beaches of Varkala and Quilon, the serene backwaters, the Western Ghats which is teaming with wild life, spice and tea plantations. Also Kochi which is known as the queen of Arabian sea where each building is whispering a tale of Chinese visitors, Portuguese traders, Jewish settlers, Syrian Christians and Muslim merchants.

Although we had vast external influences, we have still managed to retain our traditional performing art forms and culture. Kathakali, Mohiniyattam and Kalaripayattu is still practiced throughout. And there is festival of all festivals, the world famous Thrissur Pooram and a lot more. It is truly a God's own country for malayalis like me.

Here are the few things I can think of ...
