Temple Tour
Welcome to the largest Hare Krishna community outside of India. As you enter the grounds, you will see many huge Live Oak trees that are unique to North Florida. These magnificent trees add to the beauty of our landscaped property, which is lovingly cared for by our community members. The temple building was designed by our devotees. Step inside and view an authentic Vedic style temple. One side of the room is anchored by the murti (deity) form of our (ISKCON) Founder-Acharya His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami on his vyasasana (seat of the guru). At the other end of the room is the altar, where worship is conducted daily for Sri Sri Gaura Nitai, Sri Sri Radhe Shyam, Sri Sri Krishna-Balarama and Sri Nrsimhadeva.
Adjacent to the temple building you will see our state of the art 2,000 square-foot commercial kitchen. We distribute over75,000 plates of prasadam (sanctified food) every year from here . We maintain about ten acres of organic vegetable gardens as well as a small herb garden. Our organic produce is cooked into delicious meals within 1-2 days of harvesting. To eliminate waste we serve meals on reusable stainless steel plates. Around the temple you will see several small flower gardens. These flowers are picked daily and used in our pujas (worship services) in the temple. We’ve planted tea olive flowers, camellias and gardenias, all highly fragrant and lovely, especially when they surround Krishna's body. We have several active bee hives, and produce our own honey for the pleasure of Lord. Even the bees are fully engaged in Krishna's service, pollinating our fruit orchards and making honey for Lord Balarama. Srila Prabhupada said - "Anything grown in the garden, that is hundred times more valuable than it is purchased from the market." The grounds create quiet meditation areas, including the beautiful Tulasi Gazebo which was designed and built here by our devotees .
While walking on the property you will see a herd of cows and bulls. So dear are cows to Lord Krishna that He can be satisfied only when they are cared for properly. These days, cows are bred only for exploitation and slaughter but our Save the Cow program serves Lord Krishna by caring for our herd of rescued and retired cows and oxen. In between pastures is our organic orchard consisting of 11 fig trees, 11 nectarine trees, and 11 persimmon trees. There is a working pottery studio as well as a woodworking shop in our big barn with plans for more cottage industries in the future. There are 2 schools on the property. Bhaktivedanta Academy is our gurukula and has been providing a Krishna-centered education to children in the Alachua Florida area since 1990. The school currently serves over 50 Pre-K thru 6th grade students, making it the largest institution of its kind in North America. Classes include a pre-school/kindergarten (Bhakti Bhavan), a 1st through 3rd grade class (Audhurya Bhavan), and a 4th through 6th grade class (Madhurya Bhavan). With a dedicated and professional staff of administrators and educators, Bhaktivedanta Academy is focused on a becoming an exemplary educational institution that can provide both resources and a model for devotional schools throughout North America. The Alachua Learning Center is a free public charter school that serves approximately 150-200 students . It's vegeterian cafetaria has earned PETA and other awards. It is one of the top rated schools in the county. We are 501 (C) (3) non-profit charitable organization. Our IRS tax id is 59-2710464 and all donations made to "ISKCON Alachua" are tax deductible.
