Terrorists Attack Punjab Police Station; Live Bombs Found on Rail Tracks
Gurdaspur, Punjab: About three to four terrorists in Army uniform have attacked a police station in the Punjab's Gurdaspur this morning, killing two policemen. Before they attacked the Dinanagar police station, the terrorists opened fire at a bus in the town. Seven people are said to be injured.
- Live bombs have been found at a railway track on the Pathankot-Amritsar line, not far from the Dinanagar police station, pointing to a well-planned attack intended to cause maximum damage, the police said.
- The terrorists are holed up inside the police station and are exchanging fire with the police.
- At about 5.45 this morning, they attacked a Jammu-bound bus at the crowded Dinanagar bus stand and injured several people. One passenger was killed.
- The terrorists then hijacked a white Maruti Alto and drove it up to the police station. They opened fire, killing the policeman on guard duty and stormed inside.
- Another policeman has been killed and there are fears that the casualties could go up.
- Army commandos have reached Dinanagar to reinforce the police, who have cordoned off the area.
- Highways have been sanitised and search operations are on for any more live ammunition that might have been planted.
- The Union Home Ministry has confirmed that it is a terrorist attack. The Home Secretary will review security with top officials of the ministry.
- Dinanagar borders Pathankot which has many key Army establishments.
- It is also close to the border.
