Jatin Mehta, Dirty Indian politics.
The most comprehensive truth about the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi available in public domain.
On 21 May 1991, Rajiv was assassinated in Sriperumbudur district of Tamil Nadu. However, for those of who think that this was the 1st and only assassination attempt on Rajiv, here is some information for you:
On 30 July, 1987, Rajiv Gandhi was attacked by a Sri Lankan soldier Vijitha Rohana during the guard of honor ceremony in Sri Lanka. The soldier had no past affiliation to LTTE or any other Tamil group.
There was another attack on Rajiv Gandhi, by Karam Jit Singh, who fired 3 shots at Rajiv Gandhi at Rajghat. However, Rajiv survived the attempt unscathed. It was believed that he was the disgruntled survivor of Sikh massacre after Indira Gandhi’s death. Interview: The man who tried to gun down Rajiv Gandhi .
Now let me tell you some startling facts about Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination:
- Sriperumbudur, the place where Rajiv was assassinated was never listed in the itenary of Rajiv Gandhi during the election campaign, it was hastily decided by the congress workers between 18–19 May, 1991.
- Even in Sriperumbudur, the initial venue for Rajiv Gandhi was a school ground but it was changed at the last moment to temple ground even without informing the police.
- On that very day when Rajiv was assassinated no metal detectors, bomb detector was there, even police protection was scanty.
Some of these anomalies were cited in Justice Verma commission report constituted by the Govt of India:
The final report, submitted in June 1992, concluded that the security arrangements for the former PM were adequate but that the local Congress party leaders disrupted and broke these arrangements [Assassination of Rajiv Gandhi].
When Rajiv Gandhi died on 21st May, 1991 there were 14 people killed in the attack apart from the 2 killers (Dhanu [Killer] & Haribabu [Accused Photographer]. Interestingly no congress state politician was killed or injured apart from Rajiv Gandhi. Now, the following picture are taken from the video available to SIT probing Rajiv’s death on 21st May, 1991 showing the exact sequence of events.
1st Frame
The assassins brigade of Rajiv Gandhi.
3rd Frame:
Frame shows Shankar Ganesh along with J. Parmanand, builder and close associate ofMaragatham Chandrasekar.
5. Rajiv Gandhi arrives at Sriperumbudur rally on 21st May, 1991, the fateful day.
Frame 5–8: Rajiv greeted by state congress ministers and functionaries.
The women to the far right in frame 7 is Maragatham Chandrasekar. Rajiv was there to campaign for her only as she was the congress candidate, interestingly, she vanished from the scene after frame 7, she left him half way in the walk to the podium, can you believe this man??? She is said to played a very big role in the assassination of Rajiv along with her daughter Latha Priyakumar.
Now see the difference between frame 8 and 9. There were scores of Congress ministers and functionaries present that day along with Rajiv Gandhi. The most prominent congress state ministers present were : P. Chidambaram, G. K. Moopanar, Maragatham Chandrasekar and several Other Tamilnadu state Leaders did not walk with Rajiv. Strange and Impossible. But the Tamilnadu State leaders allowed Rajiv to walk the Death-Walk alone in the Final Photo Frame of Rajiv Gandhi, no Tamilnadu State leader was present with Rajiv. Were all these State Leaders aware that Rajiv would be killed and hence kept away from Rajiv to save their lives?
Frame 9: Killers Kokilla and assassin Dhanu move towards Rajiv, no Congress minister with him or around him can you believe it?
Frame 10: The bomb explodes
Police and SIT gave the explanation that Rajiv walked too fast, can you believe it, was Rajiv a “Horse” and Congress leaders “Snails”? so that they couldn’t keep up with Rajiv? I know nuts would go along with SIT version.
Some of the key loop holes in the SIT report as presented in the Verma commission are:
- The unorthodox and unplanned visit by Rajiv to Sriperumbudur which was not in Tamilnadu Congress’s plan books was never investigated.
- Rajiv’s experienced Security Officer O.P.Sagar gave a strange ‘miss’ to the flight with Rajiv to Chennai.
- Two unidentified women boarded Rajiv’s car near Ramapuram (enroute Sriperumbudur from airport) and they too disappear into thin air after the assassination, never to be found or interrogated. What forced the SIT ignore these strange events?
- Except for the fact that some of the assassins are born in Yarlpanam and one of them had taken a photograph with Prabhakaran once upon a time, what made SIT believe they are/were LTTE operatives?
- Why did SIT not consider the clearly reported facts that the assassins were heavily aided by Congress leaders in their entire process starting with Margaret Alwa (former General Secretary of Congress) forcing Renganathan to rent the house to Sivarasan (Key conspirator) and Latha Priyakumar breaking Security barriers for Dhanu (Rajiv’s assassin) and taking her to the most comfortable position to kill Rajiv and then ask Latha Kannan to help her further? Remember Latha Kannan was killed in the blast.
If you think these are concocted stories, I can tell you that during a hearing into an RTI application by A G Perarivalan, a death row convict in the assassination case, it was revealed that key records of Justice Verma commission are not traceable. They vanished into thin air as the “coal-gate files”.
There were two video cassettes of Rajiv Gandhi assassination: 1. Babu's cassette and V. Ramamurthy (TNCC president) man's cassette. The Babu's cassette was made by a man hired by the Maragatham Chandrashekhar's congress people. Out of these cassettes, the Babu's cassette was not collected by CBI SIT and it was in the possession of M. K. Narayanan, the then Director of Intelligence Bureau. A letter written in this regard by Narayanan to then Prime Minister Chandrashekar makes a reference to the video cassette. M.K. Naraynan never shared the cassette with the CBI SIT or Justice Verma Panel initially. Later when it was shared, the cassette was found to be tampered and key footage of the second's leading upto Rajiv Gandhi's assassination was deleted from the Cassette. M.K. Narayanan served as the NSA from 2005-11 under UPA and was later appointed the governor of Bengal for all these favours.
The key questions which the footage could have proved and nailed beyond doubt were?
1. Who were the people on the venue with which the assassins interacted before the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi?
2. Were the Assassins able to cross the security barrier before or they crossed the barrier later, after the arrival of Rajiv Gandhi at the venue?
3. How did the congress party workers disappeared around Rajiv' just minutes before the bomb blast?
However, during investigations, a lady witness at the venue of assassination was able to confirm that the assassins were helped by the daughter Latha priyakumar ofMaragatham Chandrasekar.
In fact Verma commission severely criticized the “Rajiv Gandhi Assassination report”. Credibility of M. K. Narayanan as IB director was questioned in length by Justice Verma for he:
- a. Rejected to produce original video recordings of the bomb explosion
- b. Rejected to agree in writing that he attended the meeting that discussed Rajiv’s security immediately following the announcement of Parliament elections
4. Karthikeyan, the head of SIT also exhibited a suspicious behavior
- a. He too rejected to show the original video recordings of the bomb blast even in the last sitting of Verma commission
- b. A version presented by him had the last few critical minutes being heavily tampered with making it very haze to arrive at any conclusion.
Here is the news hour debate, which shows that there was written communication between M. K Narayanan and Verma panel on the issue of tampered recording of bomb explosion.
In debate part 3 at 4.03–4.40 there is direct admission from Karthikeyan, the then head of SIT that there was political pressure on him from “Politicians”, I hope it is not LTTE political wing.
In a banana nation like India, there are lu-lu land laws, where the “courts of parody” and “parrot investigation agencies” dance to the tunes of politicians. If the OP chooses to disagree with me, then please remember these 2 open and shut cases: Manu Sharma was acquitted from the trial court, where he killed Jessica lal in front of more than 100 witnesses. Salman Khan’s acquittal from the https://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Sa....
Yes, the killers of Rajiv Gandhi are still roaming free and therefore I will conclude by saying that premise of your question is true beyond any doubt..!!

In his book on Rajiv’s assassination, the Chief Investigating officer was one of the Superintendents of police Mr.K.Ragothaman who has written a book in Tamil under the caption “Rajiv Gandhi Kolai Vazhaku” in November 2009 which has been published by Kizhakku Pathippagam, Chennai. He writes that there was another video Cassette, which was with M.K. Narayanan & it was never made available to the Justice Verma committe.
PS: I have updated the answer and references because some readers have questioned the evidence linking all this to Sonia Gandhi. The updated answer has details which will shake the ground beneath your feets..!! Read it..!!
