Lifestyle - Indian versus US

What àre the advantages of living in India over living in US?

  • You actually know your neighbor. I've noticed that here in the US, you rarely ever see the person you're living next to, because of the busy lifestyle. In India, you almost always know who you're living around and you interact with them on a daily basis.
  • All basic fruits and vegetables are more close to you than a grocery store. In America, you have to drive x number of miles to go get what you need. In India, fruit and vegetable vendors are usually just around the corner.
  • If you don't want to cook but don't feel like going to a restaurant, you can go to the local street food vendor and eat there for damn cheap. In America, if you don't feel like cooking, you either order pizza, or have to get in your car and go to the nearest fastfood place and eat. There are places in the US which have food carts/trucks, but it's not widely available. In India, local food vendors are available, just about anywhere. Plus, there is a huge selection of food, from parathas (stuffed breads), all the way to Chinese and momos.
  • There's a wide selection of things to do in India. You can go clubbing, to pubs, to café shops, shopping, but you can easily do that in America too. Something that you can't do in America is take your motorcycle (bike) and drive up to Lonavala (from Mumbai) and watch the sunset at Tiger Point while having tea and pakodas (fritters).
  • You can easily make friends in India. People are usually very jolly and interested in making friends (depending on where you live). If you have one thing in common, you're usually automatically friends. The people that stay in your building (apartment complex) turn out to be your best friends. While in the US, it's really hard to make friends, unless you meet someone at work or via a friend. This also plays in with my first point.

  • I'm not saying that one country is better than the other, but these are some of the things I've noticed. People in India would rather hang out than watch TV at home. People in India find happiness in coming down to the main parking lot of their building and hanging out with friends there, rather than going to parties. I guess the simple things in life, that most people take for granted, are enjoyed by the people in India.
