The tiny Union Territory of Diu, situated slightly off the coast of Kathiawad, is well known for its pristine beaches. The island that was integrated into the Republic of India on December 19, 1961 is an unspoilt traveller’s destination. The beaches in Diu can rival any of the finest beaches around the country. With an intention to put forward the mesmerizing charm of this small heaven, the government has launched Asia’s longest beach festival.
Diu Beach Festival or Festa De Diu that started on December 1, 2015 will go on till February 15, 2016. This 77 day beach festival will be marked by performances by some of the leading artists around the country. Apart from performances by local talents, leading artists such as Vir Das, Indian Ocean, Milind Soman, Benny Dayal, Sunil Pal, Neeraj Sridhar have already set the stage on fire. But there are many other stellar performances waiting for the attendees. Performances by Kailash Kher (on January 31), Shreya Ghoshal (February 7), Shilpa Rao (February 12) are some of the leading attractions remaining. Apart from this there are Kite Flying competitions, Kandil Flying, Clown Performances, Puppet Show, Terracotta workshop, traditional Diu Dance performances, etc. that would keep the attendees glued.
To make tourists feel comfortable, special Festival Village has been set up. These 5 star accommodations have sea view and the occupants would remain right in the midst of the action. If the tourists care for some adventure, they can attend activities such as Hot air ballooning, zip lining and bungee jumping. If the tourists have some leisure time in hand, then a visit to the Gir National Park or Somnath Temple can be organized.
