IMAGES FROM DELHI, THE CAPITAL OF INDIA

Welcome to Delhi - India Image archives of Kalpana. Images are organised in groups of thumbnails of images. Click on any thumbnail in a group to open the page with bigger images of that group of pictures.
I grew up in Delhi. Even after 25 years, mundane names like Tilak Nagar or Hauz Khas, can bring up flashes of colours, emotions, smells, so strongly that I can almost feel it. The Delhi of today is very different from the Delhi of my memories, yet in many ways, these two Delhi's overlap. So welcome to my images of Delhi.
You can also check the Full Image Archive Index for images from other states of India as well as pictures from different countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and Americas. Gay Pride 2009 - Delhi

Delhi had its first Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender (GLBT) pride parade in 2008. In 2009, it had become bigger and attracted lot more attention. Usually the GLBT parade is held in June, the real hot season in Delhi. In 2009, I was there. Unfortunately attitudes in India remain strongly homophobic, even while, I think that close friendships among male or female couples and public display of affection between persons of the same sex are much more acceptable compared to most cities of Europe. Old fort and tombs - Delhi

Old fort built by Shershah Suri stands on the site of the ancient Indraprastha. Closeby are the Delhi zoo, Hamayun tomb and dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin, an a chisti saint from Mughal times. Small and symmetrical white coloured tomb of Isa Khan is a personal favourite. To close this section, there are few images from Safdarjung tomb, also known as the old madrasa. Lodhi Gardens - Delhi

Lodhi Gardens, built by the British around the tombs from the Lodhi dynasty in fifteenth century, are in central part of Delhi and one of its jewels. Go there after the rains and you will see the magic of the pastel colours and symmetries of the tombs against the velvet green of lush grass, thickets of bamboo, old gnarled trees. Here histery lives along with playing children, couples looking for privacy, joggers concentrated on their run, laughter clubs laughing loudly.
